BAYKAL PRESS BRAKES VS THE COMPETITION

Baykal Hydraulic Press Brake APH ConventionalBaykal is one of the only press brake manufacturers to use Nastran software. Nastran is a powerful Finite Element Analysis solver with an integrated graphical user interface and model editor which is used to analyze linear and nonlinear stress, dynamics, and heat transfer characteristics of structures and mechanical components. This is the best software available for press brake operation and Baykal is the only manufacturer of hydraulic press brakes that uses it. This is due to cost, but Baykal spares no expense to build the best press brake machine in the world.

The manufacturing of a press brake is one thing, but building it correctly is another.  The deflection for the frame is important when building a press brake. This determines how much stretch will occur in the bending process. This deflection that occurs forces the user to induce a crown into the bed of the machine for achieving flat and straight parts.  In addition, it is a characteristic of the rigidness of the frame.  Baykal is the only builder to build to a specification of .0005” per foot per member on their larger machines.  This compared to .0015” per foot per member makes a big difference in the overall life of the machine and delivers less deflection giving the customer the stiffest and most rigid press brake frame in the market.

Baykal uses only AC servo back gauges on their pres brakes. These back gauges are about two to three times faster than other AC motor back gauges provided by other press brake manufacturers.  They also provide a better accuracy by three to five times.  When you invest in a press brake that delivers +/- .0004” repeatability of the ram having a fast and accurate back gauge, it is critical that the parts are the best they can be.  Baykal does not cut cost and offer a low cost, slow speed, and minimal accuracy back gauge on any of their CNC servo press brake machines.

Baykal uses all certified steel in building their press brakes and support structures. This means the steel which comes from Germany and Italy is certified to specifications not of the average A36 or Grade 1020. This steel used is ST44-2 and also has characteristics of having at least 12% higher yield strength, which is also an advantage when it comes to the overall frame strength. Baykal believes in using the best steel which will result in providing the end user a better and a higher quality product.

All of the cylinders used and manufactured by Baykal are forgings. Forging is superior to a casing or machined bar stock due to the fact the materials natural grain flow is made to conform to the shape of the product. Castings have an isotopic grain structure and for a given part may be as strong in compression loads but forgings are superior in tensile and shear loads due to the utilization of the grain flow.

From a safety stand point, all of the APHS press brakes from Baykal have electrically interlocked safety guarding on the side and rear of the machine providing the user a very safe machine. As a standard press brake safety feature, it protects the operator from entering the machine from the rear into the back gauge area and limits anyone from accessing the throat depth area of the press brake. A crucially important safety feature is not offered on most other hydraulic press brakes.
